Tough Touring Roof Rail Racks can be used Effectively as a stand alone rack (without a tent). Usually Bolting your tent to two of included the planks will secure it, The tent would typically remain fixed to the planks when removed, Simply unbolt the two planks from the outside edge of the rail and lift the tent and planks straight up and off. Two more planks can be purchased if you wish to replace them temporarily while the tent is off for a fully functioning touring rack
The Tough Touring ISUZU DMAX dual cab Rack Kit is specifically designed First and Foremost to be fitted directly between your dual cab and a roof top tent. All our Testing Thus far has shown that Rack and Tent produce little wind noise when fitted correctly to All Tested Dual Cab Utes.
No Fitting Instructions are included with the Kit, Fitting time (For Professionals) Basic Advice is given below in Tech Detail Section. Tough Touring expects racks such as this one is to be fitted by expert vehicle/rack fitters, as many Dual cabs have Air bags jammed into the roof cavities and expert fitting is reccommended for correct adherence to state road safety laws and a quality job overall... As far as we have seen so far, The Isuzu DMAX and Holden Colorado are fitted with Factory M8 bolts in the roof already - they are located under the black rubber stripping and sealed with putty and painted over. The Factory Holes are visible by way of the putty dipping slightly revealing them underneath, use of a stanley knife into the putty reveals the mount holes.
All components manufactured in Mild Steel, Sand blasted for maximium paint durability and Finished in Dulux Black Textura Powdercoat and Baked at over 500 Degrees Celcius for Ultimate durability. TOP HAT BAR Planks As shown here are High Grade Aluminium, Also powdercoated Black as per rest of the steel components.
Please note that Tough Touring has not taken into consideration your vehicles stability or road handling characteristics, designed for maximum strength in off road conditions at low speed.
Please adhere to reccommended vehicle roof loads where possible and drive to the conditions with safety.
Overloaded roof racks can cause dire handling effects on all vehicles, and will adversely effect your cornering and braking speeds.
Tech detail - PROFESSIONAL FITTERS NOTES
The Tough Touring Over cab roof rack 3 kit Creates the strongest mouting platform we can make available for : Nissan navara, Holden Colorado, Isuzu, Ford ranger, Volkswagon Amarok, and Toyota Hilux among others.
This Kit gives the Dual Cab roof a 1750mm long / 3 plank roof rack with access to the underside of single skin planks making direct Boltup fitment of accessories possible.
The Rack cansit between 25mm and 40mm off most vehicle models roof skin when installed and planks are a simple 'TOP HAT OPEN 'channel design in Aluminium - 3mm thick (33 mm thick including sides where folded in c shape)Some Modern Dual cab 4wd will have 8 x M6 Bolts inset into the roof mounting plates. Some Such as the Amarok and Nissan Navara dont have any. (The Amarok only has 4 from factory) We would reccomment drilling the existing 6mm mounts out to 10.5mm and inserting the included m8 Nutserts for added strength. In the case of vehicles (Like the Amarok) only having 2 bolt points factory each side, mark and drill 2 more each side using the rack feet as a template to achieve a strong install (4 x M8 Bolts each side).
Instructions on fitting these racks are not included. If you are not a Experienced Rack Fitter complicatons with Air bags and inserting / drilling into your roof blind is not reccommended - CHECK POSITIONING OF AIR BAGS BEFORE DRILLING INTO THE ROOF.
Fitting times for professionals using the Kit vary on experience from 1/2 day to up to 2 full days in the case of roof lining out / air bags / Studs present etc and fitting times vary greatly dependent on the vehicle make and model.
Our Cross Bars can be ordered in longer sizes up to 1600mm but come standard Unless Specified at 1350mm to match almost all quality roof top tents. (Bundutop, Eezi Awn, Boss RT1, Camp King, Moremi Sport, Crazy Dog k1 and The Bush company Tents.for professional fitters Time for Installatioin should be as below:
4 Hours , Remove existing roof components, drill out existing rivnuts, replace, (in the case of Amarok , Isuzu DMax, ranger and BT 50 - add 4 additional mount positions) Then Resealing with Included Automotive Sikka, Roof rail fitting and BOlting up slats .
2 hours - Fix off RTT with 6 M8 Nutserts or through bolt into the mounting holes provided on our slats...
If Optioning in Front runner Aluminium slats - add an additional 2 hours for drilling through for the tent, tent removal, adding nutserts, tent back on then bolted up.
* Newer Toyota Hilux have a particularly weak roof design, and in some models the roof does not have any roof rail section at all.*2021 Ford Ranger has studs mounting the Existing Plastic rack - These cannot be drilled out to be removed - and internally Plastic lugs are a nightmare to remove as they are surronded by air bags with no cavity...
For vehicles without any Track in the roof - Fitting any rack requires headlining removal and addition of Steel retainer plates inside the roof lining. Headliner removal and through bolting of top plates can add signifigant risk of accidental damage through dents, head lining damage and tears etc if not handled by a professional.
Through Cab / Plate mounting increases the Stage 3 Rack kits strength significantly on all of the above vehicles - however it is not necessary in most cases to achieve quoted strengh.

Check that your Isuzu has mounting holes
The Easiest way to check if a dual cab is ok to fit a Solid Rack too - Is to check the roof for roof raxk mounting bolt holes... if it doesnt have any - and it has curtain airbags - We would reccommend you get professional help with any rack install
2020 onward dual cans can be the worst vehicle to deck out with rtt or pole less awings ... Possibly due to increased Safety requiremtsn, Manufacturers have litterly fillled the cavity space in the roof with airbags... To make life a little harder for Mechanics and Fitters - the roof lining is also moulded / brittle one piece solid foam and is easily damaged when removed... damage is likely duriing roof lining removal..So yes - Get a professionals help. It will be worth it.
