The Tough Touring Over cab roof rack  Creates the strongest Roof top tent and awning mouting platform on the market  available for the Volkswagon Amarok - tested now for over 3 years without known failure to over 150kgs - These racks are super light, low and available in widths of between 1250mm up to 1550mm.

The incredible strength has been achieved by our unique 1 piece length ways folded 3mm Steel foot rail - combined with precision folded 33mm High Aluminium top hat bar planks . Weighing in at just 18kgs - The rack punches well above its weight for anti flex and strength.

This Kit  gives the Dual Cab roof a 1750mm long / 3 plank roof rack with access to the underside of our Aluminium Top Hat Bar planks making direct Boltup fitment of accessories possible - while keeping rack weight down and keeping easy access to mounting bolts from beside the vehicle. .

The Rack cansit between  25mm and 40mm off your high point in the roof skin.

We are optioning the rack as an infold rack now also, dropping the height to just 10mm of the skin of your roof, Infold racks are only available in narrow widths as the outside foot rails also limit the underslung plank widths to 1200mm.

The Amarok only has 4 x m6 High Tensile rack mounting bolts from factory -  Suitable for loads up to around 90kg in our opinion. For heavier loads and offroad corregation driving etc - We would reccomment drilling and inserting an additional M9 Nutsert into the roof directly behind the existing m6 - being carefull not to go any deeper than 3mm to prevent striking an air bag charge.

Inserting the included m8 Nutserts for added strength. Will signifigantly incease the stability of the rack for heavy loads over 90kg.

Instructions on fitting these racks are not included. If you are not a Experienced Rack Fitter complicatons with Air bags and inserting / drilling into your roof blind is not reccommended - CHECK POSITIONING OF AIR BAGS BEFORE DRILLING INTO THE ROOF. Inspection camera's etc are a very good idea.

Fitting times for professionals using the Amarok Kit vary on experience from 1/2 day to up to 2 full days in the case of roof lining out / air bags / Studs present etc and fitting times vary greatly  dependent on the vehicle make and model.  In most cases - High Spec models also have high spec air bag / meaning the entire cavity in roof can be full of air bags.

Top Hat bar planks available in   1350mm , 1400, 1450 and 1550 for outfold racks, and 1200mm ONLY on Infold Racks.

If your using the rack to install a 1350mm wide roof top tent, you would typically choose a 1350mm wide top hat bar plank to match roof top tents width, If you also intent to fit a Pole less wing awning - we would suggest you order the top hat bar planks 50mm wider (1400mm) to allow room for the brackets to sit up beside the tent. .

It is usually preferable to mount Pole less awnings directly to your roof top tent on the Amarok, as the tent gives you the required height and length to mount the awning... Not all tents can handle mounts though... Check this before you buy a tent or awning.

for professional fitters Time for Installatioin should be as below:

4 Hours , Remove existing roof components, drill out existing rivnuts, replace, (in the case of Amarok ,  Isuzu DMax, ranger and BT 50 - add 4 additional mount positions) Then Resealing with Included Automotive Sikka, Roof rail fitting and BOlting up slats .

2 hours - Fix off RTT with 6 M8 Nutserts or through bolt into the mounting holes provided on our slats...

If Optioning in Front runner Aluminium slats - add an additional 2 hours for drilling through for the tent, tent removal, adding nutserts, tent back on then bolted up.

    * All Volkswagen Amarok  have a particularly weak roof design, and in some models the roof does not have any roof rail insets for rack mounting at all...

*Typically - The Amarok has internally up to three airbags each side underneath the roof racks mounting position...  and Headlining is nightmare to remove as they are not strong enough to flex out for inspection camera use without potentially snapping the supporting material... We would reccommend professional fitting and a signed waiver of resposibility for lining wear and tear should you be wishing to upgrade roof strength to allow M8 Bolts.

    * The Amaroks Actual top roof skin is so thin - even a light elbow pressure will dent the roof. Be cautious with any pressure at all on doors / trim and any steel skin.

Angles between the Tough Touring Top Rail vary - but should match the footrail angles less 4 degreees ( If its an outfold rack, the top fold should be 80 degrees, the feet should thus be 74 degress +- 2 degrees. )

Aluminium Spacer blocks are included in the kit and these may require trimming on some models.

Black plastic Capping is now used on newer models to fill the rail cavity, (in Lieu of typical rubber strip) - There are access covers - providing good access, but too small for a large foot like our Tough touring feet... Weve found that spacing blocks can be used to get the foot flush with the cover, then install the foot over the top for a neat finish and zero cutting.

  • WARNING ON DUAL CABS AND ROOF RACKS

Check your vehicle has Factory Mounting points under the Plastic/Rubber covers before attempting an install.

The Easiest way to check if a dual cab is ok to fit a Solid Rack too - Is to  check the roof for roof raxk mounting bolt holes...

2020 onward dual cans can be the worst vehicle to deck out with rtt or pole less awings ... Possibly due to increased Safety requirements Manufacturers have litterly fillled the cavity space in the roof with airbags... To make life a little harder for Mechanics and Fitters  - the roof lining is also moulded / brittle one piece solid foam  and is easily damaged when removed... damage is likely duriing roof lining removal...
We would reccommend newer Dual Cab Utes have Racks fitted by professionals.
